Bishop, California

I scanned this image yesterday without thinking about any subtext, but this was the last image I shot on a photo trip to the Sierras in November, 2017. So in some ways, it seems appropriate to begin at the end.
.
When I study this photograph, the subject speaks to me. Is it much different than us? It may appear to stand the test of time, but its place in the world is temporary just like ours. And similarly, this rock started soft and hardened into maturity. As time passed, the environment puckered its skin and carved a story. Eventually, it’ll weaken, its bones will break, and it’ll be diminished in time.
.
It seems sad – our temporary nature. But I can accept that life is transitory. What’s difficult for me, is that although time is endless, it’s also limited. There seems to never be enough time to spend with family and friends or do everything that your heart desires. Life moves forward, but it also consumes.
.
This image makes me think and it reminds me to live in the moment. Truly! Don’t let the power of time take control. Instead, embrace it, so that this temporary life can be as rich and as full as possible. #timeisshort

This image was made in the Volcanic Tablelands north of Bishop, CA. It was made with T-MAX 400 on a Toyo 4×5 view camera. #thisismycommunity #followthedream #believeinfilm #mikebodenphoto
