Behind the scenes of our “Nuptials” series of images. This collage shows our setup photographing the print and frame of my in-law’s wedding photo from 1958 as well as some printing of various images in process. Additionally, there are two images of the final prints used at our reception where you can see how we mounted and displayed them on the tables.
.
The camera used for all photographs was a Speed Graphic with a Kodak Aero Ektar 178mm lens. A custom lens adapter needed to be made in order to mount this lens on the camera, which is actually a common setup started by David Burnett, @davidburnettfoto. David is a very successful photojournalist and someone whose images I admire and respect. Anyway, this setup is sometimes referred to as the David Burnett Combo. Many photographers use this setup and tilt the lens in such a way to create an effect of miniature, as David has so effectively done throughout his career. But the lens also offers extreme shallow depth of field with an absolutely beautiful bokeh, which is why we used the lens for our project.
